Late Prof. M.M. Agarwal A Biography
Prof. M.M. Agarwal, Ex-Member of Parliament,
Rajya Sabha was not only an able Parliamentarian, Philanthropist and
Educationalist but he was also an Economist, an Industrialist,
a great Statesman and a devoted social worker.
He devoted himself to the task of humanity and dignity to the weaker section of society in the country.
His works, principles, ideals and thoughts about the upliftment and welfare
of down trodden people and India’s unity and integrity
and maintaining communal harmony among the masses of the country will be remembered for ever.

Born on the 21st April, 1934 in Chandausi, District Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh,
his early education was in Kanpur and after completing his M. Com from
DAV College, he obtained his Law Degree from Kanpur University, Kanpur.
In his early days, He was the President and General Secretary of DAV
Higher Education Institute, Kanpur having about 24 Mahavidayalaya and
Schools functioning under the control of the institution.
Apart from the above, he was also instrumental in setting up of hundreds
of Middle and Higher Secondary Schools.
Later on he was nominated the Executive Director of Associated
Journals Limited Institute (Set up by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru) and
was nominated as Executive Chairman of the World Federation of United Nations,
Geneva wherein he traveled extensively throughout the globe.
He also chaired the Human Right Commissions at Ottawa (Canada),
Russia, Mongolia and various other countries. He was also associated with
‘Madhya; the Midage’, the Journal of Association for Health as the patron and
Chief Editorial Advisor.
He then set up The Superior Group in 1964 which under his
chairmanship grew strength to strength and after his untimely demise was chaired
by his Elder Son Shri Sanjeev Agarwal and is now known as The M M Agarwal Group
as a tribute to the great visionary.
He was elected to the Rajya Sabha from the
State of Uttar Pradesh in April, 2000 and during his tenure as a Member of Parliament
raised several matters related to public, national, regional and local importance and
wrote a book entitled “Small Scale Industries in India-Today and Tomorrow”.
He, being a Member of Rajya Sabha participated in the day-to-day proceedings
of Council of States (Upper Chamber of Parliament of India) in a constructive
manner while upholding the dignity and decorum of the House.
He was the Member of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Industry,
Rajya Sabha. He was also Convener, Sub-Committee for the Ministry
of Small Scale Industries and Agro and Rural Industries. He was also
the Member of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Health
and Family Welfare to the Government of India
